Atomic + Volley: Pay by Bank for In-app Payments

Media Release 30th Mar 2026

Volley is partnering with Atomic so your customers can pay you in your app in seconds, right from an in-app message.

Volley's Pay by Bank is a new payment method built on open banking. Your customers can pay you directly from their bank app, with no card details to enter and significantly lower fees than typical for payments by card.

If you're using Atomic to communicate with your customers, you can now also let them pay you directly from an in-app message. Payment requests arrive as a card inside your app via Atomic's SDK, pre-filled with the correct particulars and reference details. Your customer taps the request, selects their bank, and approves the payment seamlessly in their banking app.

How it works

Together, the integration works like this:

  1. You create a payment request in response to a customer event, e.g. a monthly bill being due.

  2. Atomic delivers it as an Action Card inside your existing authenticated app.

  3. Your customer selects their bank and is redirected securely to their banking app to approve the payment.

  4. Funds move directly from their bank account to yours, with settlement within an hour.

Your account, reference details and amounts due are all pre-filled making it easier for your customers to pay and virtually eliminating typical administrative headaches from unreconciled payments.

The benefits

No code required. Payment requests are delivered via Atomic's SDK as Action Cards. If you're already using Atomic, you can present payment requests in your app with little or no additional development.

Lower fees. Payments move directly from your customer's bank to yours, cutting out intermediaries and reducing transaction costs compared to card-based payments.

Better security. Your customers approve payments inside their own banking app. Your app never handles card numbers, passwords, or other sensitive payment data.

Easy for customers. One tap takes customers to the banking app they already know and trust to approve a payment, and pre-filled references mean no typing in account numbers or particulars.

Easy for finance. Pre-filled references mean payments arrive exactly as expected, virtually eliminating the manual work of chasing unreconciled transactions.
