402 Systems Ltd (Volley, we, us, our) complies with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 (the Act) when dealing with personal information. Personal information is information about an identifiable individual (a natural person).

This policy sets out how we will collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information.

When you sign up for a Volley account:

  • personal and contact details including your name, mobile phone number, and email address
  • the name and account number of the bank account you opt to have Volley requests paid into
  • your mobile operating system, device ID, and IP address, so we can analyse how our app works and fix any problems

We don’t collect personal information from you if you pay a Volley request that's been shared to you, without a Volley account ("unregistered payments").

🀲 How we collect your personal information

We collect personal information about you in various ways, including but not limited to:

  • through your use of the Volley application or website
  • conversations held over the phone by you and Volley staff members
  • when you complete registration within our app
  • when you send information in emails or correspond with Volley
  • information that we indirectly obtain from you, such as information about the hardware and software you use accessing the Volley service, your IP address, the pages you access on the website, and other websites that you visit prior to accessing Volley
  • we use cookies (an alphanumeric identifier that we transfer to your computer's hard drive so that we can recognise your browser) to monitor your use of the website. You may disable cookies by changing the settings on your browser, although this may mean that you cannot use all of the features of the website.

We will use your personal information in the Volley app:

  • to verify your identity and authenticate you within our service
  • to allow you to create an account and make Volley requests or groups
  • to let you share a Volley request containing your name and bank account details to anyone who you would like to receive money from

We collect personal information about you in various ways, including but not limited to:

  • providing additional services and products to you
  • responding to communications from you, including a complaint
  • conducting research and statistical analysis (on an anonymised basis)
  • protecting and/or enforce our legal rights and interests, including defending any claim
  • any other purpose authorised by you or the Act.

We may disclose your personal information to:

  • any business that supports our services and products, including any person that hosts or maintains any underlying IT system or data centre that we use to provide the website or other services and products
  • a person who can require us to supply your personal information (e.g. a regulatory authority)
  • any other person authorised by the Act or another law (e.g. a law enforcement agency)
  • any other person authorised by you

A business that supports our services and products may be located outside New Zealand. This may mean your personal information is held and processed outside New Zealand.

We may transfer your information in the case of a sale, merger, consolidation, liquidation, reorganisation or acquisition.

We will take reasonable steps to keep your personal information safe from loss, unauthorised activity, or other misuse.

🧹 Accessing, correcting or deleting your personal information

Subject to certain grounds for refusal set out in the Act, you have the right to access your readily retrievable personal information that we hold, to request a correction to your personal information, or request deletion of your personal data. Before you exercise this right, we will need evidence to confirm that you are the individual to whom the personal information relates.

In respect of a request for correction, if we think the correction is reasonable and we are reasonably able to change the personal information, we will make the correction. If we do not make the correction, we will take reasonable steps to note on the personal information that you requested the correction.

Your email should provide evidence of who you are and set out the details of your request (e.g. the personal information, the correction, or the request for deletion that you are requesting).

There may be circumstances which mean that information cannot be released to you. For example, these circumstances may include:

  • the information may impact the privacy of another individual;
  • the information is commercially sensitive evaluative information;
  • the information is subject to solicitor-client or litigation privilege;
  • Volley is prohibited by law from providing you with access; and
  • the disclosure could be expected to threaten the safety, physical or mental health of an individual

If Volley decides that it cannot provide you with certain information, it will outline the reasons for its decision in writing and the mechanisms available to complain about the refusal.

While we take reasonable steps to maintain secure internet connections, if you provide us with personal information over the internet, the provision of that information is at your own risk.

If you follow a link on our website to another site, the owner of that site will have its own privacy policy relating to your personal information.Β We suggest you review that site's privacy policy before you provide personal information.
